Imitation of Mondrian

Mondrian had a specific style that he used for these paintings.  He was considered as a modernist for making his paintings look 2 dimensional and used line and only primary colors in his work. I found it interesting what Mondrian does, but also found it easy and simple. So I put myself to the test and made a drawing of that same style that he would.

In the video that was viewed named “Mondrian”, showed many of his works and all were fairly similar but different in many ways. In the video one of his painting stood out to me because it was framed and positioned differently than the others. The painting was in a diamond position, with a corner on the frame was downwards.

I have drawn a “Mondrian” myself in the same position.  I used thin and thick black lines as he would, and used only primary colors in some of the boxes with in the drawing.  There is more paper areas on the paper then colors, but the colors stand out more because of it which was a technique that Mondrian used. Doing this drawing made me think a lot about what him as a great artist and what he would do. Positioning, coloring, and thinking about what might look best was a struggle but at the end I felt confident that I was done with it.

Mondrian had a great style and many people adored and still fascinated by his work. He had some similarities to Picasso’s “Cubism” by being very organic and really concise about where he wanted the lines in his painting to go. He has given a new outlook on modernism to the world.
